Is there any chance of converting the TCs to Win XPe? I have several T510s on XPe and there are little to no problems with AD/DNS.
Alternately there is the "hail mary" that seems to work from time to time. Try checking the "allow smart card login" on the network tab. For some reason this will change to a Windows log in screen rather than the HP credential screen.
